Tomorrow

The above picture was taken 3 years ago right before we headed to the hospital to have our sweet Aiden!  I remember being pregnant and thinking about what the future was going to be like once our little boy arrived.  I specifically remember trying to picture him as a little boy, running and playing!  I wondered what his voice would sound like and how he would adapt to the constant change in our life!  When I first heard his little cry, I don't think I have ever smiled so big and cried so hard all at the same time!!!  Seeing him and holding him for the first time, I THOUGHT he was the greatest gift that I could have ever received and boy was I right!  I don't think that my heart and soul were prepared for the feelings that I have for my boy!

Tomorrow, September 1st, our precious boy turns 3!  Although I am beyond proud of the little boy he has become, I am also a little sad!  Where has the time gone?  Really???  Every year (so what if he is only 2) Leif and I wake up at his exact birth time, 2:35 a.m., and we sing him Happy Birthday!  He is asleep and could probably care less but it is a fun little tradition that we started and I really enjoy it!  The next 2 years will be hard.  Leif has duty tonight and will miss our little celebration and next year he will be deployed!  These past 3 years have been so magical that I just hate for him to miss anything but, trust me, with the amount of pictures I take, Leif will be thoroughly updated!  Despite what is to come, this weekend (and next weekend too) we will celebrate the first 3 years of our precious boys life!

Every night before Leif and I go to bed, we end our night by saying something about Aiden.  It usually goes something like "Aiden is so cute when he..."  It isn't intentional but it just happens!  We know we are blessed and we do not hesitate to say it!  I feel like the past 3 years have flown by...but boy have we crammed in a lot of fun!  More on that in Aiden's special birthday post...HAPPY 3rd BIRTHDAY SWEET BOY!!!

Halloween Happenings...

As usual, we had a fabulous halloween!  Each year it seems like we try and rack our brains for some fun and unique costume ideas!  This year our biggest obstacle was our little 2 year old who does not like anything on his head (Lord help me as we prepare to spend the entire winter in Rhode Island where hats are a must)...so with that being said, we were on a mission to find a "themed" costume for our little family that didn't require any type of headpiece.
Here is what we came up with....
THE KING LIVES!!!

We actually went trick or treating in Solomons Island last weekend and since Aiden was the only one dressed up (Daddy and I didn't suit up), and of course wouldn't wear a wig, we feared he may be mistaken for a wizard (or a dancer but who's counting).  My poor husband was never far behind Aiden with his little guitar to make sure that there weren't any cases of "mistaken identity"
Notice the guitar to the right...

On Saturday night we, the adults, rounded up a group and relived our youth by dressing up in costumes and pretending we were young and eager enough to close down the bars!  Here is our group...
Aiden loved seeing us all dressed up and kept saying "I wanna go, I wanna go"...this is his "PLEEEEAAAASE Mommy can I go" face...

We ended up going to the National Harbor here in the MD/DC area...There was a best part and a worst part of the night...the best part...
Elvis riding the bull...

The boys having fun...
The Gals being Sassy..
Winning $100 in a costume contest!

The worst part of the night...well maybe it wasn't the worst part but it was definitely interesting...I was the designated driver which meant I had the pleasure of driving home 6 drunk people.  I thought a 2 year old's melt down was a test to my patience HA...I will take a melt down anyday!  Six adults slurring their words, barking directions, being obnoxious, and creating enough distractions to make us look suspicious to any cop with in a 5 mile radius surely tested my pleasing personality!  With that being said...having a designated driver is more important than my fragile nerves...I wanted to be sure that I made it home safely to my baby boy and I felt great the next day!!!
What a sophisticated bunch!
For Halloween, we went back and forth on what we wanted to do!  Being that my husband is severely addicted to football and the San Diego Chargers (who played on Halloween), we were held hostage to a 10 mile radius of the nearest TV...thank you NFL!!!  So, we decided to trick or treat in my hubby's old neighborhood!  Aiden loved it...after every house he would say "I wanna go to the next one"

Everyone kept saying that Aiden had the best costume out of the group...although I thought the hubby and I made for an attractive couple of Elvi'...I would have to agree...he was "THE KING"

Having a soapbox mommy moment...

Prior to being a Mommy, I was a very eager and passionate business women who absolutely loved the thrill of closing "big deals", I enjoyed working and I was pretty good at what I did!  I was actually kind of a workaholic.  However, after this followed by being put on bed rest before I even announced that I was pregnant, my hubby and I had to make some serious decisions!  Would I go back to office life after having our baby or would I become employed by the most demanding boss ever, my baby!  For many reasons we decided that the right thing for our family was for me to take some time away from my stressful job.  Although it is a thankless job, one with out pay or recognition, I know that it is the best job in the world!  The only problem with this job, in my opinion, is the way others treat you because you don't leave your house every morning and go into an office.  I often get the "oh, you don't work" comment or the "I could never do that because I would get bored" HAHAHAH BORED...what is that?
Yesterday, I was telling my hubby about our morning.
Me: yeah, Aiden sat in an empty bath tub with his clothes on and turned the water on and off for about an hour.
Hubby:  You let him run the water for an hour?
Me: YEP
Hubby: Why?
Me:  Well, in that 45 minutes to an hour I managed to use the restroom alone with out my 23 month old offering me an extreme amount of toilet paper, shower, shave my legs, actually dry off and get dressed, brush my own teeth, dry my hair, put on make up without any "help", clean up the bathroom and the bedroom, sort laundry and fold the load of clothes in the dryer. I made the absolute most of those 45 minutes...don't you think?
Hubby: Yep

I know his first thought was $$$$ water running for an hour!  But for me that time, where my son was in sheer water Heaven, meant 45 minutes of GO GO GO...a preoccupied child is incredibly priceless and so are the few moments of solitude while on the potty!  Most of the time I am rush rush rush...I am not in any way, shape, or form complaining.  I am just marveling in the innocence and naivety of those who get to actually eat at least 1 meal a day with out little fingers in the food, use the restroom at least once a day ALONE, have moments to themselves for thought, reflection or even just a jam session in their car!  I am completely aware that I made the choice to be at home and that I am so incredibly lucky to be in the position that I am.  However that doesn't mean that I am any less intelligent, career oriented, hard working or even that I don't have a bad day at the office.  My job isn't easy, the pay sucks, my "boss" is demanding and  there is no respect for a women who puts her career on hold for the baby she so desperately wanted.  But there are so many things about my job that I wouldn't trade for even the biggest deal out there!  I have seen EVERY first and almost every waking moment of my son's life.  I kiss his boo boo's and comfort him when he's hurt.  I would be lying if I said that I didn't miss the thrill of a signed contract because occasionally, I do...but what I would miss even more are these incredible moments...

Moments...

As I was snuggling Aiden tonight before I put hime in bed I said to him, "Aiden, am I a good Mommy?"...He smiled and gave me a big nod YES!!!  In that moment, nothing else mattered!!!

***More blogs coming...including a post about our vacation in Mexico!!!
